The origin of the name Frailes was born when these lands were visited by religious groups of the Franciscan Franciscan Order. In this place, the religious rested for a few days, when on their way to Carthage. This district is one of the most developed in the agricultural and economic fields, located to the south of Desamparados. Among its main founders are the Garro, Fallas, Piedra, Serran and Ortíz families. These people came to settle in the lands of Friar.

His hard-working spirit and the efforts made by the founders made it very soon that a school, a school and a beautiful public library were set up, and with the support of the main coffee cooperative, COOPECAFE, which has greatly benefited this population.

All the families are dedicated to agricultural work and it is very peculiar in this population to admire the houses surrounded by clean gardens, well-kept streets and a general order that attracts the attention of the visitors. The youth has taken the reins in the field of Communication and make Frailes have a small medium of information that supports the communal traditions and customs, as well as the development of communications.

In Frailes stands out the traditional Fair of the Orange and the race of the Tepezcuintle. In the latter, its inhabitants emphasize a unique sport that consists of a group of dogs running after that animal for space and 3 kilometers, until finding it in a cage. The dogs that locate the tepezcuintle give the win to its owner. Among the mountains of the south lies a peasant pearl, pure and simple: it is Bustamante. Men of work and peace with their children.

Bustamante belongs to the district of Frailes, it is a hamlet that limits to the east with Friars, to the west with Monterrey of Aserrí, to the south with the River Tarrazú and to the north with the river Candelaria, was founded by Martín Mora Rojas, Juan Campos and Jeremiah Monge, among others.
